Day one, no comments/questions for the midterm...Time 9:28pm Kirsch
in unit one study guide roman numeral 3(Correlation) what is the concept and definition of correlation vs causation i am having trouble understanding that?
can someone clarify the viagra study and why it is a double blind study is it because some men were getting it and others didnt get it to see what would happen or is there a different part to explain that?
in the fourth packet 1st page define ganglion cell and bipolar cell and their functions because i got those wrong on our test!
Antonette, correlation is the idea that as one variable does something a different variable does another specific thing...heres an example...ice cream sales are correlated with drownings...(they really are) and ice cream sales increase so do the number of drownings BUT this does not mean that they cause each other...in order to find/prove cause an experiment must be done.
Antonette, the viagra study is a double blind study because of the following: first the men recieving the pills did not know what pill they recieved (they were blind)...second the real researcher never entered the room to hand out the pills, he gave them to a research asst. who had no idea what the pills were (hes also blind) and he gave them to the men...having a double blind study take bias out of any experiment. great question!
Antonette, your 3rd question will have to wait, i will cover that in class...hope you are all right with that. Kirsch...
Thank you Kirsch! i might have more questions tomarrow!
Hey Kirsch,
I'm getting confused with the olfactory bulb and nerve
also is there any like tricks to remembering the different parts of the brain cause i cant keep them straight....
Questions from our study group:
Explain Pragmatism ?
Irrationality vs rationality?
& How much info of the ppl we need to know? like their origins and what not....?
psychodynamic??????
Gayana:Pragmatism is a way of looking at things in general...practicing truth by its practical consequences...in other words using good old common sense and doing what is right even though its not what should be done...
On the topic of Irrationality vs rationality? is all about our human "smarts" on a good day compared to a day in which we committ many errors...in the end sometimes were really good and then we have those not so good days...so its this we blend into our psychological science...
& How much info of the ppl we need to know? like their origins and what not....? Id know their school of thought, who agreed with whom, and major links (watson % rayner and little albert) etc...those first few MAJOR players are MAJOR... Hope this helps...
Gayana..psychodynamic is another way of saying freud and psychoanalytic....keep in mind freud was only one..the neofreudians expanded his ideas...newer term..
Is there any like tricks to remembering the different parts of the brain cause i cant keep them straight....
i would draw the portion of the brain your dealing with (lets say outside view) front pointing to the left of the screen so were on same page... now label it, then number it...do it again in same order...now list the first letter of each region in that same order and creat a "saying" remember the old saying "a rat in the house may eat the ice cream) it spells arithmetic....that is the easiest...move onto a new view of the brain and continue hope it helps
I'm getting confused with the olfactory bulb and nerve
the nasal receptor cells are located in the olfactory membrane at the top of your inner nose, from there the message travels to the olfactory bulb which tyransmits the message through the olfactory nerve to the brain. hope this helps... see page 225 (fig 5.25)
Great questions keep them going.....Kirsch
well nobody asked for the stand. dev. or the shoe study so....i guess you have the info... midterm exam monday...:)
